Contest details

Make a food dish or full meal, that best demonstrates how fair trade food can be at the centre of our everyday cooking and eating. First prize will win a hamper of Fair Trade food. There will also be a separate childrens (15 yrs and under) prize.

A wide range of fairly traded foods and other products is now available in Oxfordshire. This contest aims to challenge and inspire us, to show how creatively we can go beyond just drinks and snacks, to use fair trade ingredients as a mainstream part of our daily lives.

Entries will be judged on:

Delicious-ness, Nutritious-ness, and visual attractiveness (30% of score)

Creative, extensive use of fair trade ingredients (50% of score)

Good use of local, sustainably grown ingredients (20% of score)

Bring your entries between 12 - 3 pm

judging takes place 3 – 4 pm

Prizes awarded at 4:30 pm

‘Fair Trade Futures’ - by Veronica Pasteur, Head of Campaigns at the Fairtrade Foundation

Where is the Fairtrade movement now, what are the successes and challenges, and where does it need to go from here. This will be a 30 min talk with slides by an expert in the Fairtrade movement, followed by time for questions and discussion.

Bring your entries between 12 - 3 pm
Judging takes place 3 – 4 pm

3.Good use of local, sustainably grown ingredients (20% of score)
We do not have any facilities to keep food hot for the competition, so judges will use their imaginations and take account of how the food would look and taste when freshly hot. Judges may (or may not) choose to taste the dishes, at their discretion. Judges decisions will be final. Entrants are free to take back their food and accompanying dishes etc any time after 16:45.

The judges will comprise:
Maranda St John Nicolle – Director of Christian Concern for One World, and expert in fair trade
Martin Rasgauski – Highly experienced chef and catering manager
Martin Jarrett – Chipping Norton’s Town Mayor

Please supply the following on a sheet of paper with your entry:
1.*Entry number – given at time of entry
2.*Entrant’s public identity
(can be anything you like so long as not offensive; alias, nickname, team name, etc)
3.*Real name and contact details (kept confidential; it’s so we can contact you if we need to)
4.*Name of entry (what is your meal/dish called?)
5.Description of entry and how it meets aims, and why you think it should win..
6.Ingredients, identifying fairtrade, local and other items
7.Any other relevant information
(how you made it, how it helps people use more fair trade items, etc)
Items marked with a * are essential; the others are optional. The better the information you supply with your entry, the better it will be judged! Only written information will be taken into account..
